Villa Shodhan Ahmedabad
Most of the Ahmedabad doesn’t know this ..! This building i.e Villa Shodhan, was created 60 years back!
We were not allowed to take pictures of inside … the pictures here would possibly give you the glimpse of the greatness of this building.
Hidden from public, this huge building is somewhere in Ahmedabad and is Ahmedabad’s answer to the great architecture of India. Originally, the construction plan was created for Mr Hutheesing which was later bought & finally constructed by Mr Shodhan and hence the name – Shodhan Villa !
Way back between 1951-56, when it was made it created a lot of buzz that self-sustains today because of the sheer brilliance & beauty of “modern” concrete architecture by Swiss architect Le Corbusier. Not to forget that way back then, creating such a concrete building itself was a big thing to do.
Basically made in a cube size, designed for hot climate, the villa has free-standing roof parasol (umbrella-like). What looks like an unfinished façades job or apartment blocks, has been done intentionally, with a sort of ‘hanging-garden’. The villa has been designed in a way to ensure optimum air & light, shades & shadows, open & closed areas. The lawn is equally beautiful, though there is nothing usual about, has small green dunes coupled with a swimming pool and a differently designed area with 4 big rocks surrounding it.
