Lucknow = Royal = Awadhpuri

Like many other culture of India, Lucknow too has its own identity, style & distinction. Famous for their ‘royal’ legacy, Lucknow is equally famous for its food, specially the non-veg ones. And there is a reason why they went on to become so famous for their food : Rulers of Lucknow. The kings & nawabs were very fond of different kind of food and believed a lot in experimenting with new dishes. The cooks had to keep coming up with new taste, different dishes & special presentation to keep the Kings happy. They ensured every small thing in preparation & presentation is taken care of – right from blending spices & raw materials in right proportion to cooking it on different strength of flames to garnishing it with perfect stuff to presenting it at a particular temperature in beautiful way in front of Kings. It required lot of practice & perseverance. As they say it’s more to do with the expert hands than to do with the ingredients.

Well, that was ages back. Things have changed. Kings have a new name – they are called customers now :) … so the tradition of serving GREAT LUCKNOWI FOOD to GREAT KINGS continued. Atleast so was the experience when we visited Awadhpuri. Awadhpuri has moved from ground floor to first floor of the same building and has moved from A La Carte to Fix Menu (Unlimited but not buffet), has moved to an ambiance that’s more like a tour to some King’s Dining Hall and overall serving an experience like never before. The food is served on table. The ambiance is just so Super! Walls are adorned with Lucknowi design made on huge Mirrors & life size original paintings of Nawabs & Kings while the ceiling has been draped with off white silky fabric in middle of which are beautiful hanging old style chandeliers. Top it up with “Live Lucknowi Music” every evening.

Waiting to know about their food? How do we define the food there? A lot of you have been there before they shifted to this new place & new style and a few may not be too happy with their food. We too were, somehow, skeptical but … this time we have only one word for them – MESMERIZING!

They serve both veg & non-veg with around 20+ varieties to pick UNLIMITED servings from (personally, I am in love with their Veg Platter). Their platter of four desserts, specially the Chukander E Afroz (Beet Root ka Halwa) is sure to make you go weak on your knees. Though they have a fix menu that has different combinations on different days of week, here is a list of our favorites from their Saturday menu:

Veg : Bhuna Badam ka Shorba, Paneer Tikka, Aloo Neze se, Kaju pyazi kabab, Paneer Kundan Kalia, Veg Pulao & entire bucket of assorted breads most of which we had never tasted before!

Non Veg : Gosht Yakhni Shorba, Funkari Jheenga, Tilnaaz Machli, Murgh Sarson Peelimirch Tikka, Taar Gosht, Lagan Ka Murgh, Biryani served in a differently shaped clay pot & entire bucket of assorted breads most of which we had never tasted before!

PS : Their dips are just so amazing, specially Dahi Peeli Mirchi Ki Chutney
