Has anyone watched the 1979 classic, Going In Style?
The slipshod trio of George Burns, Art Carney and Lee Strasberg as hunchbacked fogeys robbing a bank, in an old American cinema, is unbeatable. Disguising using nothing but flaky groucho glasses, the robbery in the movie is planned as a shacky, rather intrepid joke making for a perfect recipe for timeless comedy.

As if Hollywood could listen to our pleas for juicy, slick comedies; after a really long time we have a classic, Going In Style, giving us three scrappy codgers, who were just denied pension, teaming up to loot the Williamsburg Savings Bank in Brooklyn. The 2017 remake starring Michael Caine (Joe), Morgan Freeman (Willie) and Alan Arkin (Albert)  in a bank heist, is a crowd pleaser.

Being a neurotic fan of Morgan Freeman, and watching the adorable Michael Caine is reason enough for me to want to buy a large tub of popcorn, get comfortable on the recliner and enjoy the movie. The performances are brilliant, especially of Caine as the ringleader. The film is admirably cropped and edited, the charm of the original film is retained, but Braff gives the remake a more plausible plot with trending issues, subtly portraying the disgracing dominance of industrial leaders.

If, Going In Style was on your weekend to-do list, then we’re right with you. Sit tight and enjoy a no-brainer, jesty bank heist by 3 scrappy fogeys; we give the movie 3.5 SHORS!
