Kochadaiiyaan Movie Review

The most awaited and much delayed ‘Kochadaiiyaan’ is finally out in theatres. The movie is released worldwide in record number of screens and is also available in multiple languages. Other than its continuous delays, the movie is also in news because of its technology.

The movie uses Motion Capture technology which basically means that it records actions of human actors, and uses that information to animate digital character models in 2D or 3D computer animation. The purpose of motion capture is to record only the movements of the actor, not his or her visual appearance. This animation data is mapped to a 3D model so that the model performs the same actions as the actor. In short the actions / movements of a digital character look almost real-life. Oh, didn’t you know that Kochadaiiyaan is a complete animated movie?

Coming to the review piece of it - firstly, let me tell you that Ahmedabad doesn’t have lot of Rajnikanth fans; in fact, it seems there are hardly any. The opening show just had 3 people, including me.  The team features all biggies like Deepika Padukone, Jackie Shroff, A R Rehman and Mr. Rajnikanth himself but  all put together have not managed to put up a nice show.

If I ignore the use of technology for a bit, the storyline was very boring, predictable and slow. Lot of songs and that too in an animated version simply becomes a pain to watch. In fact, even this technology when compared to Hollywood is no way impressive.

The movie is about a son taking revenge of his father’s death with a hint of historical background. It draws its lead actor from a real life character of Pandya King Kochadaiyaan Ranadheera but other than that everything else is fictional.

Will the movie excite you? Well, definitely not, but it surely is worth watching because of the super star Rajnikanth and the technology being used.

Overall 2.5 Shors
