Movie Review - Raman Raghav 2.0

Attributes: Movie Reviews

Director: Anurag Kashyap
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Vicky Kaushal.

Stepping into an Anurag Kashyap flick, you know for a fact that something dark is bound to be the crux; and when we talk about a gruesome serial killer, the movie radiates 'darkness' from the word - Go!
Add onto that Ram Sampath’s music and more than authentic locations for a much required raw and rustic feel.

As the name goes, the movie is based on serial killer Raman Raghav, who had a killing spree of 41 people in the 1960s. The movie clarifies from the very beginning that the tale is not about the real-life Raman Raghav; rather it talks abut a man in present day, who's been inspired by the same. Portrayed by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, I am sure the real-life Raman Raghav, wherever he may be (hell?) is bound to be impressed by his performance.

Divided in 8 chapters, the movie focuses on Raman in the first half wherein each chapter tends to be bone chillings, interestingly showcasing the murders he committed. What makes it 'interesting', is the why he talks and carries himself during the entire tiff.
You have to give it to Nawazuddin Siddiqui, who understood such a complex character and delivered a purely immaculate performance; taking his acting prowess to a whole new level.

What brings the movie down like a pack of cards is the second half, that places Raghav in the front seat. The movie has Vicky Kaushal playing a cop and a drug addict; his chapters involve a series of very confusing, abstract sequences, albeit any emotion. Though the actor did a pretty decent job at it; it seems the presentation of Raghav simply pulled him down.

If I were to divide the film, it would be in 2 parts; the first being the ever-so-terrifying Raman, and the other being sleep-inducing Raghav.
Full marks to the first one and literally zero for the second; thus making me rate RAMAN RAGHAV 2.0 - 2.5 Shors on 5. Cheers.
