Yet another month commences, yet another super hero movie hits the screens and yet again, we find our geeky selves in line on the first day itself.
The good doctor is definitely not as mainstream as the rest of the Avengers; in fact, i am quite sure that not everyone would have even heard of Doctor Strange being a super hero prior the release of the movie. Regardless, the movie at heart, is just your average superhero origin story.
A good backstory. A life changing moment. Voila! All hail the chosen one with super powers. And of course, who can miss out the forgettable villain.
Sue us if we are wrong for, in this instance as well; when traditional medicine fails for Dr. Stephen Strange after a car accident, it leads him to learn ancient arts in a mysterious enclave; which is a front line of a battle against unseen dark forces.
Anyways, despite the rant, DOCTOR STRANGE indeed makes for quite a watch for, simply the cinematics are stunning enough to make the movie a visual masterpiece. At places, it does remind you of Inception but, it's still a spectacle nonetheless.
Story wise, it is of course a fight between good against evil with the good prevailing but, they could have done a better job in making it enticing enough for, it simply has too many plot holes.
Talking about the acting, while Benedict Cumberbatch pulls off Doctor Strange with immense ease; he seems extremely familiar in yet another pompous, arrogant avatar. Mads Mikkelsen is wasted in his villainous (ahem.. funny) avatar; while Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, and Tilda Swinton play their part seemingly well.
At the end what keeps you going is a simple hope to expect something new or out of the ordinary as the movie seems to conclude; and since the movie couldn't satiate that need, it tries to glue our bums with the help of subtle humour at odd places, and it more or less does the trick.
All in all, despite everything DOCTOR STRANGE is still quite an entertaining popcorn flick for you to catch over the weekend; and despite what you read, we are sure you are going to step out for the movie regardless. So, let us know what you think?
3 shors out of 5.
