Movie Review: Mubarakan

Attributes: Movie Reviews

Director: Anees Bazmee
Cast: Arjun Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Ileana D'Cruz, Athiya Shetty, Neha Sharma and Ratna Pathak Shah

Anees Bazmee who is still remembered for his out and out comedy flick Welcome has yet again come up with a multi-starrer Mubarakan. The film revolves around a highly expressive Punjabi family who is too true to its bonds. Enter Kartar Singh (Anil Kapoor) who is laid down with the responsibility of raising his two orphaned nephews. Unable to handle the task, the twins Charan and Karan (both played by Arjun Kapoor) are sent to different houses in the same family.

The movie has its share of amazing locations and the effort to make the audience laugh is also there but it falls short of intention. Neither a few good punch lines or Anil Kapoor’s screen presence resurrect it.

The film is more like a chaos wherein the lead characters are confused with their love choices.

Mubarakan is not a film which is extremely new in its plot, however; Arjun’s on screen presence could be tolerated for a while.  Ileana’s character is convincing enough in the film but Athiya’s extremely brief presence is quite a mismatch.

Even with numerous comic scenes, the movie fails to make you laugh. Anees Bazmee whose previous films have also been on the lines of confusion and hilarious marriages is overall following the similar path with Mubarakan and that disappoints big time.

The movie has its share of no brainer punch lines like, “Iss Baar Christmas 25 ko hai?” which does make it all the more worse.

Watch it only if you have the patience to survive a true blue, commercial Hindi flick which makes no use of the brain.
