Movie review: TROLLS

Attributes: Movie Reviews

Directed by: Walt Dohrn, Mike Mitchell
Cast: Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, Zooey Deschanel, Christopher Mintz-Plasse

Trolls are a bunch of happy folks who live in their own little bubble of happiness. Before almost 20 years, they were attacked by Bergens, who are devoid of joy and hope. Bergens think that by eating Trolls they could attain Euphoria. To save themselves from Bergens, Trolls recolonize and fuel themselves every day, through rave, and repeated bouts of singing, dancing and hugging without any rhyme or reason.

Cut to the present, Princess Poppy (Anna Kendrick) the leader of the Trolls clan, kind of  gets complacent about their safety. She nonchalantly occupies herself with scrapbooking despite being warned by witty yet skeptical Branch (Justin Timberlake) regarding yet another attack by an exiled Bergen called Chef (Christine Baranski). And because of all the jazz and the pomp of yet another Trolls-full party, Chef finds the clan and kidnaps Princess Poppy's friends in a jiffy and presents them to the Bergen King Gristle Jr. (Christopher Mintz-Plasse). Determined to get her friends back, Princess Poppy befools Branch for helping her out on a rescue mission and everything ends like cupcakes and rainbows as destined.

There is romance between the Bergen King and his maid, there is sarcasm, but the story is sloppy. Instead of cherishing the differences, Trolls ends up emphasizing on synthesis at any cost as Trolls think that Bergens should also become all cheerful by dancing, singing and hugging. Though the idea of finding one's happiness through one's own mind is presented on screen, the nincompoop dance and songs kill the central theme of this animation flick within no time.

The fabric of the film - animation and effects are thankfully in place but do not anticipate much from the story because it dies down just like it did for Mr. Peabody and Sherman and others.

While kids may like all the cuteness, indulgences and survive the movie; the adults could definitely take an uninterrupted nap!

2.5 Shors out of 5.
