The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies

Out of the trilogy, THE HOBBIT: BATTLE OF THE FIVE ARMIES is the most intriguing movie and least disappointing. Having read the book, if you opt to go for this flick then you will probably be surprised.

The prequels were extremely boring albeit some scenes featuring Smaug but, the third movie jumps straight into fire, flames and destruction on the battleground. On a generic note, the majority of the movie is entertaining but, lacks the gore and that it featured in the prequels to maybe appeal a wider audience and thus, lacks impact.

You will come across a lot of familiar faces from the 'Lord of the Rings' but, don't have an impact as much. Just for the sake of nostalgia I guess. Which can garner positive & negative reactions, both. The former, because it was great to see Elrond swaying around and slaying ghostly kings, and the latter because it is irrelevant to this trilogy, like the dwarves. They remain as irrelevant as ever. Even after three movies, I can't put even one name to a face, which wasn't the case in the LOTR.

A lot of hype was generated (mainly in my end) to witness the showdown between Azog and Thorin for three movies now, and will they be able to live up-to the book! Sadly, they finish with each other in an extremely disappointingly predictable manner. The fates of the other dwarves, the Elves, the humans and even Bilbo are pretty much predictable. When you're aware of what is going to happen to some key characters, their journey has to be interesting enough to justify a prequel. The journey in this case is mildly interesting, just not thrilling enough, but still passably entertaining.

All in all, being a fan of the Hobbit and the passable way that they captured the book in a motion picture, I give it 3 Shors on 5. Cheers.
