Lose & Find Yourself with the Mighty Wildlife of Kanha!

There are two things that Kanha (in Madhya Pradesh) is synonymous with. The first, of course, is the mighty tiger. Most people who go to Kanha do so in the hope of catching a glimpse of the wild beast. The second mighty name associated with the jungles of Kanha is that of Rudyard Kipling and the famous characters of Mowgli & Sher Khan. Although it’s not a 100 percent proven fact but people are of the belief that the forest described in the iconic The Jungle Book novel was based on the wilderness of Kanha.

Travelling to the wilderness of Kanha though is time-consuming. After flying to either Jabalpur, Nagpur or Raipur, there is a 3-6 hour car ride that one must endure to reach the destination. It’s best to choose an early flight and spend the entire car ride sleeping.

Once in Kanha, after the hotel check-in is done, it’s time for the safari. There are safaris (which can be booked online) held during both the morning and evening that go to any one of the four zones (Kanha, Kisli, Sarhi and Mukki) of the Kanha National Park.

If you’re lucky, you will be able to spot a tiger. (If you get to see a mother with her cubs, that will be the jackpot.) If you don’t get to catch a glimpse of the striped predator though, don’t be disheartened. There are plenty of other wild animals within the park – many of whom are much less elusive than the tiger.

Langurs, deers, and peacocks, for instance, are all over the area. They are quite comfortable in the presence of a throng of humans in vehicles and don’t shy away while you’re taking pictures of them.

While there are guides who’ll always be on the lookout for any call or pug mark that could suggest the presence of a tiger nearby, it won’t be a bad idea to read up on the ways of the wild yourself.

This season, make plans with your clan to visit Kanha and let the nonchalant wildlife there remind you about the essentials for living an adventurous life.
