Here at the Beer Dossier, we love SMaSH beers. SMaSH stand for Single Malt and Single Hop. As a brewer or even just as a drinker, the best way to know what a malt or a hop tastes like, SMaSH is the way to go. As long as you keep a clean yeast profile, by focusing on just one grain and one type of hops in a recipe, you can truly get a feel for the flavor of the malt and hops used.

Windmills Craftworks’ current IPA is a SMaSH IPA and naturally, we had to go try it!

Appearance - Almost Clear, Golden with a small white head that sticks around for a while.

Aroma - Guava all over along with other tropical fruits and some pine-y hop terpenes.

Flavour - Tropical fruits sitting on top of an extremely nutty, malty base. Intense fruity, earthy and pine-y hop flavours throughout the sip that is well drawn out finishing long, leaving a pine-y, fruity, malty taste that lingers around until your next sip. Hop bitterness stays in the aftertaste as well.

This beer is a real delight, but you’ll need something to take that hoppy-malty aftertaste off your palate after every sip. Something salty would work very well. Cheers 🍻
