The first thing you notice about Big Fat Sandwich is how it is located bang in the middle of the street, next to a flower stall and a zebra crossing. Very un-Delhi of it. Once you swing the doors open and settle in, that notion strengthens. The radio is playing jazz and there is a pet corner for your dogs and cats to play and be fed while you are busy hogging the menu.

The menu is filled with all kinds of sandwiches—flat bread, bun and hot dog bread. The founders, Anant Kataria and Siddharth Manchanda have roped in Blue Tokai for their authentic coffees and a home bakery, Miam for delicious macarons, choux pastry, madeleines and what not.

I went for the chef’s special first—a blackboard at the entrance announces the specials. First up was Crispy Parmesan Chicken with Marinara and Melting Mozzarella and Onion Jam served in a bun. And it was just or more heavenly as it sounds. The chicken was crispy with cheese oozing out of it with each bite and the onion jam was subtle but held the filling together, lending it a slightly sweet twist.

The Chicken Chorizo with Melting Mozzarella Topped With Bacon Bits and Onion Jam was also equally mind blowing. The bacon, albeit a bit stringy held its own and mingled well with the sauces. From the menu, I ordered ‘The Morning After’, with coffee glazed bacon, honey, dates, lime, chili goat cheese and rocket leaves and it left me asking for more.

If you are a vegetarian, go for the ‘Mushaboom’ which stars a thyme infused cheesy mushroom patty. There are also varieties of fries on the menu to go with your sandwiches which will leave you full and sleepy. There are also shakes and juices to choose from.

From Miam, I chose the Vanilla Choux Pastry and it blew my mind. The fresh cream filled my mouth with every bite of the flaky, soft and light pastry and there was no better way to end the meal.
