Mr. Mamagoto has Arrived at Gurgaon with its Asian Fare!

Cuisines: Asian

Filters: Dine-in

Attributes: Restaurants, Lively, Legendary

Have you ever had a cousin whom everyone loves better than you? The overachieving entertaining one? Well, Mr. Mamagoto, the cousin of the famous pan Asian restaurant chain, Mamagoto might be on its way to becoming that. The menu is concise and its too soon to have a liquor license, but the dishes pamper you, and you soon forget about the other cousin who has been around for quite some time.

The place is easy to spot though Gurgaon’s Cyberhub is teeming with restaurants. Once you settle comfortably, pick from the small plates. The Rock Shrimp Tempura with the chilli mayo is soothing. No excessively greasy, you can just pop them like cheese balls—the shrimp is perfectly cooked. Corn on the cob with Sriracha mayo and parmesan cheese and the Japanese spice togarashi is ideal for evenings, rainy or otherwise. The corn easily splits from the cob.

Though I am not a salad person, I decided to go for the Thai Chicken & Water Chestnut one with red chili strips, kaffir lime and lemongrass. And I must say, I was pleasantly surprised. For some, it might be too sour and I do admit, it was a bit watery, but the mix of flavours were a revolution.

With the dimsums, I decided to go old school and went for the Old School Gyoza which came in a pool of soy and was light, crisp and chewy. I also chose a Chickpeas & Mushroom with Truffle Oil bao and the only complaint I could come up with was to tone down on the wasabi. The patty was perfectly grounded and the mushroom with chickpea combination blew my mind.

I also give it to Mr Mamagoto for creative vegetarian sushi ideas. The Smoked Scamorza Cheese & Picked vegetables with Tanuki was a vegetarian dish that I wouldn’t mind ordering again and again. By this time, my tummy refused to go on. But I had to sample the Katsu Chicken which are panko crusted boneless chicken; served with a sauce and wasabi mashed potatoes. I would happily replace my KFC nights with the Katsu.

For dessert, be sure to order the Panookie, which is a large plate size hot chocolate chip cookie topped with ice cream. Take a bite with both of them and you will know why I say Mr Mamagoto is here to stay.
