Yeti is Back with its North Eastern Delights, Delhites!

One of Hauz Khas Village’s most beloved restaurants, Yeti- the Himalayan kitchen is back with a bang. The popular Tibetan and Northeastern food haunt has reopened a few buildings away from its original location. But in order to double the fun, the restaurant has opened a second branch in Greater Kailash 2.

Besides the usual Tibetan favourites that Yeti was popular for, the new menu also has a bunch of new Bhutanese and Nepalese dishes. The menu is up to 12 pages long. Order a plate of chicken momos to start off the meal, while you take a read though. A glass of iced tea will be a perfect accompaniment in this weather. Yeti also serves alcoholic beverages, so you can take your pick from that.

While Yeti does not offer very magnificent views of the Hauz Khas lake, a private dining area lined with big glass windows does offer an opportunity for a peaceful meal, with Nepali music playing in the background. The minimal décor, mainly comprising Himalayan masks, prayer wheels and colourful flags, helps enhance the ambiance.

Next, we asked for some mutton shabalay and a plate of shapta. While the shabalay was a little dry, the shapta was perfectly done. The Bhutanese chicken dishes are one of the highlights of their menu. We decided to opt for Sha Datchi, a Bhutanese chicken dish cooked in a creamy curry, that we pair with tingmo, steamed bread.

If you are one of those who believes that one can never have too much of good food, then you should also opt for the Nepali thalis, which come in both vegetarian and non-vegetarian varieties. These include staple Nepali dishes of gundruk sadeko (fermented vegetables), piro aloo(spicy dum aloo) and pickle, alongside panner/chicken/mutton preparations.

If you’re unfamiliar with the northeastern cuisine, ask the staff for recommendations and you will not regret it. Yeti’s staff is familiar with the menu and extremely friendly. If the food is not enough to make you want to plan your next trip to the northeastern Himalayas, then the friendly people at Yeti certainly will.
