Kolkata is known as a hungry city. It admires, adores and cherishes good food and related efforts. Street food is always not what Kolkata craves for but what to do when in a rush or in an area where there's no suitable restaurant around? In such situations, food trucks are there to save us from those terrible hunger pangs. As we say food truck the first thing that crops up in mind has to be Benfish was the first food truck of Kolkata that was introduced some 15 years ago. But time flies and now Kolkata has a huge craze for food trucks. Thus, Cityshor brings to you the best four among all in the town, thank us later!

Hungry Hands:


The initial journey for this truck wasn't an easy one. Placed near BBD Bagh, one of the largest office paras of Kolkata, it took Hungry Hands almost half a year to convince the people about the food and quality. Reason? BBD Bagh has the best of make shift eating places in town. Finally, the ice broke when the owners and the chef thought to do away with the traditional items and introduce some pastas and continental food dishes. Currently, they are selling rice noodle and prawn Thai curry as the highest selling combo. Their prawn chips are also to die for.

Agdum Bagdum

Have you ever heard of Hyderabadi biryani served in Bengali style or mutton kabiraji stuffed inside soft brown bread? No? Then your next grab on the go should be from Agdum Bagdum. Other than biryanis and kabiraji burger,  Meiwei Chinese spaghetti, Indian mirchi wala burrito wrap and some subtle grilled Russian sandwich, fish and chips could also win the 'in demand' crown from this truck. This truck that started a couple of years back has developed such a huge client base that they have recently introduced take away joints in Haridevpur and Golfgreen as well.

Thank God It's Fresh

The concept of this food van is fusion food. Functional at one of biggest, poshest and happening most club, the Calcutta Rowing Club, the owners kept the taste of the offerings quite up town to match the demand! This food truck's another specialty is the kind of songs it plays. The regulars say, it is the hippies' caravan. Spaghetti, museli, wine marinated grilled chicken are the most popular from this truck.

Foodie Roadie

According to the gen Y, Foodie Roadie is pretty much a their type of food truck and as we try to decode the reasons, the tagline provided the answer. "No ghee No oil", yes, it is a no ghee, no oil, panko breading kitchen, that caters to today's health conscious fashion freak generation. When we visited this place we even found gym hitters crowding up there. Their best offerings have to be the burritos, falafel, nachos, tacos, sandwiches, and burgers.

Cook on Wheels

If you are from Kolkata, you got to come across this food truck at least for once. Situated at the 'always festive' place, new market, this food truck has been feeding hungry humans for years. This happens to be the most affordable food truck and the most regular too. The ground rule for this food on wheel is no fancy food but some wholesome filling ones. The rolls, noodles, fried rice and chilli chicken combos are the best sellers. Go shopping in esplanade and on your way back find this food truck near Esplanade metro station gate 4 and have some good food that will lift your mood up, just like that.
