Guess the name of that one cuisine that can never ever go wrong with anybody... Oh yeah, we hear 'Chinese'! When you say Chinese, the best of its fare is available in Kolkata's mini China — Tiretti Bazaar. Situated in the heart of the city, this place has the best of Chinese eateries of Kolkata.

During our latest trip to Tiretti Bazaar, we found a de-glam place with red walls, plastic tables-chairs, Chinese lights hanging from the ceiling and a number of vibrant coloured cute looking Chinese dolls dolling up the decor. Another thing that got our attention was the really long queue outside named Tung Nam Eating House.

This eatery serves Chinese delicacies with some exotic sauces. Tung Nam opened in Tirette Bazaar in the early 2000s and the owners say that they never expected such a boom in the business from the very beginning of their journey at this Chinese market where there have been a number of old, already established players in that area.

There are foodies who refer to this place as the hidden gem of the area. So what are their specialties? Everything Chinese actually but we picked up the chilli pork, wonton, pork rice and chicken in hamei sauce. One should must start the meal with Chicken wonton soup as a starter. The thin wontons melt in your mouth leaving the mild flavours of pepper and garlic mixed chicken. The main course must include their best item which is dry chilli pork. If you are not a fan of pork you may opt for pepper chicken as well. Rice dishes with hamchoy sauce coupled with Schezwan gravy can also be a great idea.

This place serves hundreds of customers every day and on holidays and Sundays the number goes even higher. The eating joint is looked after by Suzanne, the owner and her family. As per the customer recommendations and feedback the fact that the place is a non-AC restaurant has never affected the footfall. The food is brilliant both qualitatively and quantitatively. We suggest you either drop in for lunch between 12 p.m. and 3 pm, or wait for dinner between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Tung Nam Eating House is closed every Tuesday but is open for you on all other days.
