LOL with this Play on Dating Apps and Drunk Texting Today!

We’ve all had our fair share of swiping through dating apps. And we’ve also sent numerous text messages to our partners or potential love interests after chugging a beer or two. Haven’t we? There’s no denying that technology and alcohol is a lethal combination when it comes to relationships. And National School Of Drama’s Amitosh Nagpal’s latest play Talli Tuesday: A Drinklicious Hindi Comedy explore these very themes today at Harkat Studios, Andheri from 7:30 PM onwards.

Titled as a drinkilicious comedy, Talli Tuesday shows the lives of five couples and incidents around their lives that involve a dose of technology as well as alcohol.

Nagpal says that he has drawn inspiration from the various Facebook posts he has come across and Tinder tales he has heard from his friends. “ I find it funny how people have an entire relationship over social media or how they fight and it’s there for everyone to see,”says the director. Interestingly, Nagpal has recently written the dialogues for Irfan Khan starrer Hindi medium. Earlier he had been nominated for the National Award for the lyrics for the film Oye Lucky, Lucky Oye.

While the premiere production had a more prominent cast comprising Norah Fatehi and comedienne Ankita Srivastava , this time the play will see Breshna Khan, Neelima Sharma, Anuradha Mukherjee, Jahnavi Dave, Vishwas Kini, Maneesh Verma, Purnanand and Vipin Heero play the couples. Nagpal further reveals that each of the five stories will be presented on stage as ‘first peg’, ‘second peg’, ‘third peg’, ‘fourth peg’ and ‘fifth peg’. And we all know what can happen after downing five glasses of liquor! But Nagpal says that alcohol in the play is merely symbolic. “After drinking people reveal their true nature and speak from their heart. Thus the characters here are shown drunk, because when you’re drunk you can get by doing anything with the simple excuse that sorry I was drunk.”

The play is a commentary on relationships in today’s day and age. In one of the scenes in Talli Tuesday, a man meets a prostitute, despite being active on all social media sites, he has decided to meet her because he feels lonely. He ends up simply talking to her all night because he longs for company. In another scene, a man laments that he doesn’t have anyone to talk to despite living in a crowded metro city and thus downloads a dating app to simply talk to people to get rid of his loneliness. With more snippets as these Talli Tuesday is bound to tickle the audiences' funny bones.
