Spicy, tangy, crunchy and priced Rs. 20 only! If you enjoy vegetarian chatpata chakna that is also healthy, you’ve got to try this Matki Bhel sold near Tiranga Biryani House in Budhwar Peth. One of the oldest matki bhel stalls in the city, this is probably the most flavourful and interesting chakna choices to make when grabbing a couple of chilled brews. Read on to know why we’re talking about this particular stall amongst so many others in Pune…

Sapkal Bhelwale is one of those old establishments that make you believe in the age-old philosophy of good things come in small packages. The stall opens up at around 5 pm and shuts down by 9 pm. Yes, you’ve got just four hours to go and grab this yumminess. What sets this bhel apart from any other we’ve tried is the ‘Paatal Pohe Chiwda’ used. That’s the thin version of pohe chiwda. Also, they use only the gaawran variety of matki with sprouts. What further adds zing to the taste is freshly cut onion and coriander along with the spicy green chutney!

Matki bhel was first sold in the city around 1960 and has been a popular favourite ever since. In addition to being pocket-friendly, this option is loved by most for being oh so mouth-watering. It’s spicy, flavourful and crunchy. What we totally admire about this bhel is that it’s almost oil-free and thus we can relish it guilt-free! Now isn’t that the kind of accompaniment we all would enjoy with a good brew?

For hatke, chatpata and sasta chakna, here’s where to go…
